ROAMING IN The MIOCENE PARK IN HONOR OF EARTH DAY
On April 20, the Bükki National Park Directorate invites its visitors to the Ipolytarnóc Fossils Geosite with a special program. In connection with Earth Day, the 20-year anniversary of the Global Geoparks Network is being commemorated at the Novohrad–Nógrád UNESCO Global Geopark's Paleontology Center.
The entry gate of the Slovak-Hungarian transnational Palóc geopark, which is a member of the Global Geoparks Network (GGN) celebrating its 20th anniversary, joins a series of large-scale international celebrations in honor of Earth Day and the related geoparks that preserve the geological heritage of our planet.
The GGN, that unites the UNESCO Global Geoparks of our Earth has announced a special series of programs and a competition related to our geological heritage and the living planet, which is worth joining. As part of this, the Miocene wandering thematic tour of Ipolytarnóc tells the stories of the stones, giving some teasing and encouragement to those preparing to participate in the competition to develop their individual imagination and creativity. The special program was even announced by National Geographic.
On April 20, the thematic tour, starting at 10:45 a.m. from the Ősfenyő Belépő (Entrance to the Ancient Pine) visitor center, will include the topics of the geoparks that preserve and interpret the memory of Earth and the story of a former volcanic disaster, which hit the site 17 Million years ago, in addition to visiting the geological trail. As an extraordinary discount, those who register in advance can also take part in the 3D time travel in the reception building. (Those who have registered in advance can participate in the tour (HUF 3,000/person), the intention to participate can be indicated in a message received by April 18 to the email address ipolytarnoc@osmaradvanyok.hu.)
Earth Day and the GGN celebration are also held in the other two UNESCO Global Geoparks of our country the Bakony–Balaton and the Bükk-vidék Geoparks . On Monday beginning at 13 hour CET you can click on the YouTube link, because among the new UNESCO Global Geoparks the Bükk-region Geopark will be presented to the world public in a digital broadcast.
